Welcome
Our wonderful class is made up of 27 Year 1 and Year 2 children. Our class teacher is Mrs Fay and she is supported by the amazing quartet: Miss Wilbourn, Mr Jones, Mrs Webb and Mrs Morrell. We are very excited about the year ahead and we cannot wait to get to know our new friends.
During our transition day, we read a book called “It’s Okay to be Different” by Todd Parr. We used this to base our class artwork on where the children celebrated their own differences and the differences of people we may meet in our community. This has set a great family feel to our classroom, it is a welcoming and safe place to belong to. Another book we love is “Have you filled a bucket today?” by Carol McCloud. We have a classroom ‘bucket’ where we collect good and positives things that the children do for each other and the adults to represent keeping our bucket of happiness full. I am proud to be part of such a loving and kind class.
Last year, the children made some fantastic progress within Read Write Inc Phonics (RWI) and we would like to see these skills develop imaginative and creative writers. Writing is an area of focus for our class and the whole school. To develop children who are Super Scribes, we would encourage families to read and share stories as much as possible. The increased exposure to range of rich and interesting language will improve the children’s vocabulary and bank of words when they are creating their own sentences and stories.
On a Monday and Thursday, the children will take part in PE twice a week. They must have the correct uniform on, no earrings, hair tied up, blue shorts/joggers, white/blue t-shirt, PE hoody or the normal school jumper and PE plimsols or safe trainers.
