Intent
- Teach children the skills needed to confidently participate and compete in a wide range of sports
- Provide opportunities for children to excel in PE
- Offer a breadth of sporting activities
- Create a positive relationship with physical activity so they can sustain a fit and healthy lifestyle
Implementation
- Our curriculum has a clear progression of skills
- Our curriculum provides a breadth of sporting activities: 45% games 18% athletics 9% dance 9% outdoor adventurous 9% circuits (fitness) plus swimming in Y3/4/5
- Children are encouraged to beat their personal best in a range of sports
- Lessons are planned with challenges for children of all abilities so that they can make progress and excel
- We provide a competition calendar of inter and intra school competitions
- Health and fitness is promoted in school through PE, PSHE, science, active break/lunch times and intra school competition
Impact
- Children develop skills in a range of sports and confidently compete by the end of key stage 2
- Children are motivated to achieve in PE so that they sustain a fit and healthy lifestyle, beat their personal bests and successfully compete in sport
- Children leave primary school with the knowledge and motivation to lead active, healthy lifestyles for the rest of their lives
