Welcome
A very warm welcome awaits in the Bramley Vale Nursery and Reception classroom. The children are supported and nurtured by Mrs Foston – the class teacher and the very experienced Teaching Assistants – Mr Jones, Miss Wilbourn and Mrs Roberts.
In Early Years our aim – First and foremost – is focused on settling the children into a predictable routine where they feel safe and happy. We use a creative and structured approach to delivering a play based learning curriculum where our children learn and thrive.
Our children are at the centre of all that we do with particular emphasis on their communication skills, physical, social and emotional well-being, personal health and learning. We consider connections with family, communities, cultures and the natural world and how we can meet and respond to the needs of the child today and how we can lay strong foundations for their lives in the future.
Important reminders for parents
To facilitate the smooth running of your child’s learning in school and to maximise their potential we ask that you please ensure the following:
- School uniform should be worn every day. You may place orders on school app. or visit the main office
- Nursery and Reception children need to come to school wearing PE kit on each Monday and Wednesday.
- Please ensure your child has a complete change of named clothes in school and named wellies!
- Name all your child’s belongings including: water bottles, shoes and clothes to avoid loss and disappointment.
- EYFS Library day is Thursday- we swap books weekly. Please ensure library books & reading diaries are in school on Thursdays, so we count up home reading for the Reading Olympics. Your child is working towards earning pins and prizes!
- Weather appropriate clothing is essential- a coat / hat , as we enjoy considerable time outdoors- no matter the weather!

What is a Home Visit?
Before your child starts at Nursery or Reception a member of staff will make a visit to your home to meet you and your child.
Why do we make a Home Visit?
Visiting you at home is a good idea because it is a place where you and your child feel comfortable and relaxed. When you welcome us into your home, your child sees us as friends. Children need to see that the people who are going to be caring for them are friendly and trusted by you.
What do we do when we visit you?
We come to chat about your child and answer any questions that you may have about them starting Nursery or Reception. We like to find out as much information about your child and can help you fill in any forms that we need for our records. Usually, the visit lasts about half an hour. We will bring a few toys and books for your child to look at and play with. In this way, they become interested in talking about what they could play with when they come to school. It is also an opportunity for us to discuss your child’s development needs, any dietary requirements and special needs. Because all of this is done in your home, it alleviates your stress and anxiety and ensures that we can get to know your child well before they have started in school.
When do we visit?
We like to visit you in the week before your child is going to start their transition days in our Nursery or Reception. This is so that the gap between seeing us and starting is as short as possible for your child. They see us in their own home and the following week they come to play with us at school.
What do other parents/carers say about Home Visits?
Parents/carers are usually very positive about Home Visiting. They say that it helps their child settle quickly into our school. It is also useful to start to build relationships with the adults at our school, and to see them as people that they can be confident in, who are friendly and who will take good care of their child.
