Summer 1 News Letter.

Welcome back to Summer term 1 – Time certainly is moving quickly. This term is my absolute favourite. Apart from all the topic work we shall be doing, we shall also be planting and growing our own flowers and vegetables! We even have some tadpoles to observe!

Expressive Arts and Design: Art is the overall focus this term across school. EYFS are no exception! We shall be creating mini-beasts from papier mache and creating our own Warli art. Next week is Bluebell week; our woods are covered in hues of purple. We shall be taking the children down and sketching the flowers. All this as well as role play, singing, dancing and generally being as creative as we can.

Understanding the World: This term the children are learning about mini-beasts in all their glory. We will be hunting them down, building shelters and finding out all we can about the critters in our gardens!

Communication, Language and Literacy: Daily stories, chatter, poems, singing, new vocabulary certainly keep our children busy in this area. This term I shall be continuing with sentence structure and the use of full stops.

Personal, social, emotional development: Drug Education is the theme this term. The term drug refers to any chemical tablet or medicine that we may ingest. We shall be educating the children about the dangers of taking any medicines that are not theirs and looking at sweets and tablets to identify the differences.

Physical Development: We shall be taking on the role of mini beasts this term! We shall use our bodies to explore how critters move along the floor, walls etc. Look out for the videos!

Mathematics: This term we shall begin by looking at 3D shapes. Whilst, teaching number bonds to 10 daily. We shall focus upon counting and understanding number beyond 20, eventually looking at the number 100 using ten frames. There will also be a focus upon spatial awareness and creating shape within a shape.

Literacy: Read Write Inc is now embedded within school and EYFS are progressing well. All groups have changed and children are working at the next level in reading. Please keep up the hard work at home. It really is paying off!
